Massive 9lbs hairball removed from teenager’s stomach

Doctors were desperate to diagnose a teenager who couldn’t even drink water without being violently sick, but what they discovered left them stunned.

Medics treating Ayperi Alekseeva found a massive hairball blocking her digestive system. The 18-year-old needed emergency surgery, or she would have died from extreme dehydration and malnourishment.

The hairball, which weighed 9lbs, was formed because the girl chewed the tips of her hair, and even ate hair and bits of wool she found on the carpet at home.

Ayperi, from Batken Province in Kyrgyzstan, had to be transported to a hospital in the capital city of Bishkek for treatment.

Doctors said that despite looking through 50 years of medical records, they have never been able to find a case involving a hairball this large.

Prof Bahadir Bebezov, who performed the life-saving surgery, added: ‘The parents brought her in after she started losing weight, and she couldn’t eat anything. By the time we got her, should could not even drink water. We realised we needed to operate immediately.

‘It was actually the only alternative, nothing else would solve the problem. In fact, her stomach was so badly swollen from hair and bits of wool from the carpet that it literally just oozed out soon as the wall of the stomach was cut.’

The professor of surgery insisted that Ayperi was psychologically healthy, despite her unfortunate habit.

His patient is now recovering in hospital, and will be discharged by the end of the week. She has promised never to chew the tips of her hair again. - Metro UK

100 orgasms a day, this man suffering from Persistent Genital Arousal Syndrome

Meet the man who suffers from 100 orgasms every day. We say ‘suffers’, because Dale Decker doesn’t enjoy a single one.

His rare case of Persistent Genital Arousal Syndrome developed in September 2012 when he slipped a disk in his back while getting out of a chair.

The 37-year-old said: ‘Imagine being on your knees at your father’s funeral beside his casket – saying goodbye to him and then you have nine orgasms right there.

‘While your whole family is standing behind you. It makes you never want to have another orgasm for as long as you live.

‘There’s nothing pleasurable about it because even though it might feel physically good – you’re completely disgusted by what’s going on.’

The painful pelvic episodes have made Dale housebound through fear of cumming in public – just like the time he had an orgasm in the local supermarket and saw ‘around 150 people looking straight at me’.

Dale lives in Two Rivers, Wisconsin with his wife April and two sons Christian, 12, and Tayten, 11.

While she does everything she can to support him, April, 33, is finding Dale’s condition just as hard to live with as he is.

She said: ‘We really struggle right now as he is unable to work and supply for his family and I feel like all the strain is on me.

‘It’s really upsetting, we don’t do things that man and wife should do and we argue over things that should not be affecting us.’

Despite suffering from a near constant erection Dale and April rarely have sex. - Metro UK

Gay Men Draw Vaginas, meet your new favourite Instagram account and (soon to be) book

What do gay men think vaginas look like, you ask?
This one appears to have an eye (Picture: Gay Men Draw Vaginas)
If the Kickstarter to sponsor a man’s potato salad didn’t impress you, this $37,000 attempt to publish a book of vaginas will.
Based on the Instagram account @gay_men_draw_vaginas, which is quite literally exactly as the name suggests, the new project hopes to pull together all the wonderful illustrations of the female anatomy as detailed by homosexual men.
The social media account was launched in June this year by Shannon O’Malley after a gay friend drew a very impressive and detailed vagina for her. As you do.

She’s since collected over 300 drawings, and the account now boasts everything from hand-drawn works of art that’ll teach us all a thing or two about what really is down there, to designs so silly they’ll make you snort out loud and embarrass yourself.
The campaign has already raised over $22,000 and with 22 days still to go there’s every chance you’ll be able to scoop up one of these limited edition treasures in time for Christmas.
Your nan will particularly like the ‘monster’ designs we’re sure.

Watch CNN blunder as news network map shows Hong Kong in South America

The American news giant dropped the clanger while using a background graphic to illustrate China's deadly hornet outbreak
Hong Kong at South America? Watch the video here
American news network CNN made the embarrassing mistake of relocating Hong Kong - to South America. The geographical error was made on a picture used to illustrate a news story on China's outbreak of deadly hornets. And the presenter is none the wiser as she completes her piece to camera.

This isn't the first time that CNN have blundered in this way. Back in January 2012 a geographically challenged employee put London in Norfolk on a map used for a story about the phone hacking scandal.

For those who weren't paying attention in GCSE Geography, Hong Kong is actually situated in Asia, thousands of miles away from the point CNN would have you believe.

So either these giant hornets have moved an entire land mass across the globe or someone at CNN isn't too hot on their map reading.

Giant ‘alien’ egg at school terrifies pupils

A headteacher had to apologise after a giant ‘alien’ egg terrified primary school pupils.

The 1m (3ft) white egg scared some of the 250 children at Holy Trinity as rumours spread that a teacher received burns after handling it and of scratch marks on a wall.

Headteacher Jon Smith told parents of an ‘amazing discovery’ but insisted it was safe. But as panic mounted, he was forced to issue an apology and explain it was a project to promote investigation.

A ‘scientist’ was called to the school in Halstead, Essex, on Monday to prove the egg was safe.

Cry of freedom: Elephant chained up for 50 years is rescued 'and WEEPS with relief'

Raju the elephant was beaten, abused and forced to go hungry until animal charity workers rescued him last week

For 50 years Raju the elephant was held in chains, beaten and abused – a pitiful site with his legs bleeding from spiked shackles and living on handouts from passing tourists, writes Sarah Arnold in the Sunday People.

He was so hungry he would eat plastic and paper to fill his empty stomach. But last week animal charity workers swooped to save him in a daring midnight rescue operation on the streets of India. Some experts believe elephants cry when overcome with emotion, just like humans. And Raju’s rescuers insist the giant animal wept as he realised his ordeal was coming to an end.

Pooja Binepal, of Wildlife SOS-UK, said: “Raju was in chains 24 hours a day, an act of intolerable cruelty. The team were astounded to see tears roll down his face during the rescue.

“It was incredibly emotional. We knew in our hearts he realised he was being freed.

“Elephants are majestic and highly intelligent animals. We can only imagine what torture the past half a century has been for him.

“Until we stepped in he’d never known what it is like to walk free of his shackles.

“But today he knows what freedom is and he will learn what kindness feels like.”

A 10-strong team of vets and wildlife experts from the charity, based in Palmers Green, North London, were joined at midnight on Thursday by 20 Forestry Commission officers and two policemen to rescue Raju.

The mission took place under cover of darkness to avoid detection and spare suffering Raju from the searing heat of the sun in the Uttar Pradesh region of India. It had been exactly a year since the charity was alerted to this plight by the Uttar Pradesh Forest Department. A confiscation process had gone through the courts before Raju was seized.

Pooja explained: “Very little is known about his early years but we believe he was poached from his mother as a young calf.

“The poachers either slaughter mothers or they drive the herd into traps that are small enough only for the babies to fall into.

“The mother cries for her baby for days after he’s been stolen. It is a sickening trade.

"The calves are then tied and beaten until they submit to their owners. Their spirits are broken.

“Raju’s case was particularly tragic. He has been sold on and on. We believe he has had up to 27 owners. By the time we found him he was in a pathetic condition.

"He had no shelter at night and was used as a beggars’ prop from dawn until dusk.

“He wasn’t fed properly and was in a state of hunger and exhaustion. He began eating plastic and paper.

“His nails are severely overgrown, he has abscesses and wounds because of his spiked shackles and continually walking on a Tarmac road has led to his footpad overgrowing.”

Once a court order was issued, a team led by Wildlife SOS founder Kartick Satyanarayan carried out two days of surveillance, fearing Raju’s owner, known as a mahout, would flee. Kartick explained: “We had to act quickly as his situation was so desperate and the cruelty so extreme.

"The spikes on his chains were cutting into his flesh. Each time he moved pus would ooze out of the wounds. Pain and brutality were all he knew.

“His cruel handler even tore out the hair from his tail to sell as good luck charms. The exploitation and abuse just had to stop.”

But even as the mercy mission began, Raju’s owner tried to prevent his rescue.

Kartick said: “He began to shout commands to terrify Raju and try to provoke him. It created an incredibly dangerous situation because a bull elephant can snap a human like a toothpick if he becomes afraid or angry.

“Then he put chains around Raju’s legs in an attempt to stop us moving him. They were so viciously tight they were cutting into his legs.

“But we stood our ground and refused to back down. And as we did so, tears began to roll down Raju’s face. Some no doubt were due to the pain but he also seemed to sense that change was coming. He felt hope for the first time.

“We knew it was now or never so we made the decision to move his transportation truck closer and walk him 200 yards.

"Every step was agony but we had to take him. We decided to remove the shackles after we’d got him to safety.”

Once the five-and-a-half-ton elephant was loaded on an open truck and sedated, he was driven 350 miles to the charity’s Elephant Conservation and Care Centre at Mathura.

Kartick said: “He took his first step to freedom at one minute past midnight on July 4, US independence day. It felt fitting.

“The other elephants in the sanctuary woke up as we pulled in and came to have a look. It was an extraordinary moment.”

Raju was fed bananas, banana leaves, mangoes and some bread and biscuits and given water.

The charity’s head wildlife vet Dr Yaduraj Khadpekar then began the painstaking process of removing his shackles.

Kartick said: “It took 45 minutes to liberate him. The chains wound round his legs caused pain if anyone tried to take them off. Four mahouts gently persuaded him to sit and finally we were able to give him his liberty.

“We all had tears in our eyes as the rope which held the final spike was cut and Raju took his first steps of freedom.

"The team was exhausted but elated. Raju suffered unthinkable abuse and trauma for so long. His spirit was broken.

“The cruel spiked shackle will go to a museum to raise awareness of a vile trade.

“He will be held in an isolation pen for a week while he receives emergency medical attention. When he is ready he will join two companion elephants called Rajesh and Bhola, who also once suffered unthinkable cruelty.

“Bhola was blind and was run over by a truck. But despite his terrible spinal and trunk injuries his mahout forced him to work until we rescued him from the streets, a living skeleton.

"Rajesh was brutally beaten in a circus. It made him dangerous until he began to trust again. They’ve both been rehabilitated and Raju will learn how to live again by following their example.

“He will then join the rest of the elephants, including five flirtatious females. He’ll spend the rest of his life in a safe compound in dignity and free from suffering and pain.”

The charity, which depends on donations, is trying to raise £10,000 to help start Raju’s new life. To contribute, go to wildlifesos.org, or send cheques or postal orders to Wildlife SOS-UK, 483 Green Lanes, London N13 4BS

Drama teacher charged with series of sexual offences against a teenage boy

Drama teacher Kelly Burgess faces four counts of sexual offences against a teenager and abuse of a position of trust.
Kelly Burgess
A female drama teacher from South Wales has been charged with a series of sexual offences against a teenager. Pretty blonde Kelly Burgess, from Newport, has been suspended from her job as a drama teacher at St Katherine's School in Bristol, according to Wales Online.

The 26-year-old faces four charges of adult abuse of a position of trust - sexual activity with a boy between 13 and 17 years. The alleged incidents cover a period between January and late August last year.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said: “Kelly Ann-Marie Burgess, aged 26, of Grosmont Way, Newport, has been charged with four sexual offences against a teenager.

“The incidents happened between January 1, 2013, and August 28, 2013.

“She is due to appear at North Somerset Magistrates’ Court at Worle on March 17.

“She has been charged with four counts of adult abuse of position of trust - sexual activity with a boy between 13 and 17 years.”

A spokesman for North Somerset council confirmed a teacher had been suspended from their post while the allegations were investigated. The spokesman said: “We can confirm that a member of staff at a North Somerset school has been suspended. As the matter is currently the subject of a police investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment any further.”

St Katherine’s School, where Burgess works within the performing arts department, has almost 1,000 students aged between 11 and 19. An inspection by England’s schools watchdog Ofsted last September reported that the school “requires improvement”.

Man tries to pay Valentine’s Day restaurant bill with ‘trillion dollar’ note

We doubt there’s a place in the world that could break a ‘trillion dollar bill’ but that didn’t stop this man from reportedly trying to pay with one.
Michael Williams
Michael Williams, from Sumter, South Carolina, offered to pay his restaurant bill with the high value currency after his debit card was rejected on February 14, according to The State. But unsurprisingly the staff at the Applebee’s outlet did not think the note was legitimate and promptly rang police.

The 53-year-old was arrested at the restaurant but not in relation to the bill.

The authorities decided to ignore his alleged claims of being a trillionaire and instead picked him up for a pending contempt of a magistrate’s court charge.

(Pics) Shoppers strip down to their underwear for sales offer at clothing store

The bargain hunters bared all for the The Seminaked Party and queued for hours to get their hands on free and discounted clothes

Shoppers stripped down to their underwear to get their hands on free clothes in possibly the most outrageous sale ever. Spanish clothing brand Desigual organised The Seminaked Party in the cities of Rome and Turin to kick start its January sales.

The first 100 customers through the door were promised a free outfit if they came without any clothes. The rest of the half naked crowd got 50% off the summer collection as a thank you for their efforts this weekend.

Girls sprinted inside to ensure they didn't go home empty handed as well as half naked. And even the men got involved, turning up in small boxers to give the girls a run for their money.

The parties have previously been held in Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, US cities and London since the brand first launched its campaign in 2005.

Woman files for divorce over the way her husband eats peas

A woman has filed for divorce just a week into her marriage after discovering her husband doesn’t eat peas with a fork.

The woman in Kuwait is said to have been disgusted at the ‘shocking sight’ of her new husband using bread rather than cutlery.

The incident was apparently so traumatising the unnamed newlywed decided to try and end her marriage just days after their wedding, Gulf News quotes Kuwait newspaper Al-Qabas as reporting.

In another case highlighted by the paper, a woman attempted to divorce her husband after he insisted on squeezing toothpaste tubes in the middle and not at the end.

‘We are always arguing. I keep telling him that he should squeeze in the end of the tube, but he stubbornly refuses and keeps squeezing it in the middle. He is so obstinate,’ the woman is quoted as saying.

Thousands of Bees stolen

British police are looking for a pair of crooks with sticky fingers who made off with a hive full of sleeping bees.

The hive, which was taken from a community garden in Norwich between Dec. 13 and 22, contained an estimated 20,000 to 60,000 bees that were hibernating for the winter.

A Norfolk Police spokesman told the Telegraph that "it would have taken two people to move the structure."

"Police are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information concerning the whereabouts of the stolen hive." - Huffington Post
