'Walking fish with feet, toes and human nose' found in Caribbean leaves experts baffled

Image
Fishermen have been given a fright after a weird-looking creature with scales, feet, toes and a human-like nose was discovered in the ocean. The strange hybrid, which has human-like feet allowing it to walk across the seabed, was hauled out of the depths of in the Caribbean. It has scales like a fish but two feet complete with toes, as well as a "perfectly formed human nose" above its mouth. And the alien-looking being , found in the sleepy harbour of Windward on the tiny island of Carriacou, has disbelieving fishermen stumped. One islander said: "Everyone crowded around to look - nobody had ever seen anything like it. "Quite a few people were pretty scared and thought it looked like something out of a sci-fi horror film." Veteran fisherman Hope McLawrence, 74, who found himself staring into the eyes of the "alien" creature when he hauled in his nets, admits he was astounded. He says the foot-long creature has two feet with toes, no...

Ohio mulls over making sex with animals illegal

Image
If you live in Ohio, then we’ve got some bad news. Your days of having sex with your pets may soon be over. Two local senators are trying to make it illegal for humans to conduct any sex-related activities with animals. The bill they’ve put forward would also ban people from selling animals for sexual purposes and buying animals to get down and dirty in the hay. Detective Jeremy Hoffman made a link between bestiality and child porn. He told WCPO: ‘I realized that much like those in our society who choose to abuse children, those who sexually abuse animals lack any semblance of a moral compass; they lack any sense of sexual boundaries.’ Currently the bill, brought forward by senators Jim Hughes and Jay Hottinger, has not received any opposition, but who knows? - metro uk

Cry of freedom: Elephant chained up for 50 years is rescued 'and WEEPS with relief'

Image
Raju the elephant was beaten, abused and forced to go hungry until animal charity workers rescued him last week For 50 years Raju the elephant was held in chains, beaten and abused – a pitiful site with his legs bleeding from spiked shackles and living on handouts from passing tourists, writes Sarah Arnold in the Sunday People. He was so hungry he would eat plastic and paper to fill his empty stomach. But last week animal charity workers swooped to save him in a daring midnight rescue operation on the streets of India. Some experts believe elephants cry when overcome with emotion, just like humans. And Raju’s rescuers insist the giant animal wept as he realised his ordeal was coming to an end. Pooja Binepal, of Wildlife SOS-UK, said: “Raju was in chains 24 hours a day, an act of intolerable cruelty. The team were astounded to see tears roll down his face during the rescue. “It was incredibly emotional. We knew in our hearts he realised he was being freed. “...

Orphaned polar bear cub becomes best friends with a teddy

Image
One immensely endearing polar bear has been photographed frolicking about in the snow with his best friend – a cuddly teddy bear. Kali the white, fluffy bear was taken in by staff at Alaska Zoo after they found him alone and scared on the north-west coast. The one-year-old’s mother is believed to have been killed by hunters and he struggled to cope without her. The adorable cub was given the brown bear as a gift from the keepers and he immediately took a liking to it – the two are now inseparable. After Kali’s rescue in March last year the hunt was on for a permanent space in a different zoo. In May of this year he was transferred to Buffalo Zoo in New York and ‘is doing very well.’ ‘He’s become a close companion for Luna, [another] cub who was born here last November and hand-raised by our staff,’ said a spokesman for Buffalo Zoo. ‘The first day was a little nerve-racking for everybody, but now they’re playing.’ A spokesman for Alaska Zoo said that returnin...

(VIDEO) Dog and magpie prove unlikely best friends

Image
Today the internet has gifted us with a video of a magpie play-fighting with a dog, the pair scrapping and lazing around in the sun together and generally being best buds. You might expect the Jack Russell to pounce on the bird and tear it to shreds, but this particular pooch seemed more interested in playfully pawing at it and rolling around on its back. There’s a moment when the pair start to get a little rough and you think ‘Oh God this is only going to end in NOM’, but even after the dog trots off, the magpie follows it – flying after it and bringing it a nice stick. In other internet dog news, this month we have also met Remi, the ‘world’s saddest dog’ (in a cute way) and saw an incredibly polite canine that wipes its feet before entering the house. - Metro UK Watch the cute video below LIKE us on Facebook too:-

Clone your dog: Scientists offer Britons chance to create £63,000 pet replica

Image
Are you a dog lover who couldn’t live without your favourite pet? Does the idea of having your canine by your side for the rest of your life sound like a dream come true? Scientists from South Korea are giving one ‘lucky’ Briton the chance to create a clone of ‘man’s best friend’ for free. Insung Hwang, director of the UK Dog Cloning Competition, said: ‘We can clone any breed, size or shape of canine and are coming to the UK to offer this process to the owner of one very special dog. ‘We welcome entries from any UK-based dog owner who wants to benefit from this exciting new advance in biotechnology.’ Experts will take one microscopic skin cell to recreate an exact replica of your canine in just two months using cutting edge technology. A biopsy is taken from a living dog which is then replicated to create a man-made embryo. The cells can also be banked at a facility to be activated at a later date. The team from Sooam Biotech claim to have successfully clone...

Angler Hooks 134-Pound Carp In Thailand, May Crush World Record

Image
Holy carp! A British tourist may have just reeled in a world record. While vacationing in Thailand for his birthday, Keith Williams hooked a 134-pound carp, believed to be the biggest ever caught. "He told his wife that he could feel in his bones that he was going to catch a special fish that day," Stuart Gillham, owner of the fishing resort in Krabi where Williams was staying, told British newspaper Metro. The monster fish, which weighs 134 pounds and 7 ounces, reportedly took 25 minutes to reel in. According to The London Times, the previous record was held by Terry Mather, who caught a 114-pound Siamese carp. The International Game Fish Association will need to confirm the new world record for largest carp. Not bad for a 56th birthday present. - Huffington Post LIKE us on Facebook too:-

Never drink alone again with wine for cats

Image
How many times have you got home after a long day at work, kicked off your shoes, opened a bottle of red wine and sat down with a glass, only to find your mood ruined by the fact that your cat can’t join you in having a drink? Um, us neither, but apparently there is a market waiting to be tapped, albeit in Japan. B&H Lifes has produced wine for cats named Nyan Nyan Nouveau, in a reference to the local equivalent of ‘meow meow’. Describing the drink as wine may not be entirely accurate, however, as the drink is actually Cabernet grape juice, with added catnip thrown in for good measure. Only 1,000 bottles have been produced, costing around 399 yen each (£2.5). - Metro UK LIKE us on Facebook too:-

Is this the biggest fish ever? Giant oarfish found off coast of southern California

Image
The carcass of a giant fish thought to have inspired sea serpent legends throughout history needed 15 people to haul it on to a beach. The 5.5m (18ft) oarfish was discovered by a marine science instructor while she snorkelled near Catalina Island off the coast of southern California. Jasmine Santana, who works for the Catalina Island Marine Institute, managed to drag the creature – thought to have died of natural causes – out of the water before 15 people rushed to her aid. The oarfish, which can grow up to 15m (50ft), is rarely seen as it dives 914m (3,000ft) deep. ‘We’ve never seen a fish this big,’ said Mark Waddington, senior captain of the Tole Mour, CIMI’s training ship. The carcass is expected to be put on display for visitors to the island. - Metro UK LIKE us on Facebook too:-

Couple share home with 17-stone Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs - and they even hog the sofa!

Image
Janey and Dave Bryne spend £100 a month on pig food, plus £350 to cut their trotters every three months We all like a relaxing night pigging out in front of the TV - but this couple take it to the extreme. Janey and Dave Bryne share their home with two 17-stone porkers, Meeka and Molly, who love to crash out with them in the living room and steal food from the cupboards. But while Janey insists she has never been happier, it is not what she signed up for when she splashed out £350 on Meeka - who was meant to be a micro pig the size of a small dog. She got the animal in 2009 and the receptionist, 45, said: "In six months she'd ballooned into a 17-stone beast. I'd actually been sold a Vietnamese pot-bellied pig." And the giant pet caused tension with fireman husband Dave, also 45. She said: "Dave would get annoyed when he couldn't fit on the sofa because Meeka was sprawled out on it. We'd end up in blazing rows and Dave of...

Man 'immune' to deadly snake venom after allowing himself to be bitten 100 times

Image
Unemployed American Tim Friede was so confident that he put his theory to the test by allowing a black mamba to bite him An American man claims to have built up an immunity to snake venom - and was so confident he allowed a deadly black mamba to bite him.Tim Friede says he has built up a tolerance to the venom of some of the world's most poisonous snakes - after subjecting himself to 100 bites and injections. And he has now released pictures that show him taking - and surviving - a bite from a water cobra and insists he has done the same with one of the world's most deadly snakes, the black mamba. The venom from a black mamba would ordinarily kill anyone within 20 minutes but the 45-year-old shows hardly any ill effects and believes the ordeals he is putting himself through will help develop anti-venoms for the third-world.The unemployed former factory worker said: "When people see what I do they usually swear or ask me if I'm going to die. "The pic...

(PICS INSIDE) Joseph The Dog Was Chained To A Tree For 4 Years

Image
Joseph the German Shepherd was clinging to life when authorities rescued him. He was emaciated and dehydrated, his skin was covered with infection, and he had heart worms. Police say his owner left him chained to a tree for four straight years. The poor pooch -- whose name was changed from Toby by the folks at Progressive Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) in Ohio -- is getting better. He's currently undergoing veterinary rehabilitation. Joseph's former owner, Jeremy Shane Temple, faces animal cruelty charges. "It's just hard, really, seeing a dog that skinny," Kassie Jadin, the facilities manager at PAWS, told HuffPost Crime. "It's just so pathetic all around. There aren't enough words to explain how sad it is." Officers told WCPO that they found the 5-to-7-year-old dog chained to a backyard tree in Middletown with no more than a few scraps of food and little water. Jadin says he was covered in fleas and painful bites. Temple r...

Sex-Crazed Tarantulas Are Coming Out In Droves

Image
Bigfoot may be a hoax, but if you live in California, you'll likely face something else that's big, hairy and totally real. It's Tarantula Lovefest 2013. "This weekend or next weekend is going to be the biggest spider movement of all," Al Wolf, director of the Sonoma County Reptile Rescue told CBS News Saturday. "All the males will be looking for the girls so it's gonna be eight-legged love." Male tarantulas mostly live underground in burrows, but during mating season, their lust brings them up to the outside world in search of females, who are waiting in their own burrows. If droves of randy tarantulas running amok wasn't creepy enough, their mating process is. Males carry their sperm on the outside of their bodies. They weave a "sperm web," where they keep their sperm until they find the lady tarantula of their dreams. While the spiders may terrify humans, it's the male tarantulas who are really getting the r...

(PICS INSIDE) Bigfoots? Hiker Shoots Clear Photos Of 'Moving Beasts' In Pennsylvania

Image
Bigfoot is making a big stink on the Internet this week. First, a crack team of veterinarians and scientists regurgitated a press release claiming that they had DNA evidence of Bigfoot's existence. That "evidence" was and likely still is bogus. But are these photos real? Pennsylvania hiker John Stoneman says he was driving his car through Kinzua State Park when he noticed not one, but two hulking creatures lurking in the woods. He slowed down and took the photographs, which do indeed appear to show at least one giant apelike creature behind some trees. He told the HNGN, "I'm a skeptic myself. I'm not a believer, but this was not a bear and you can see fur on it ... It's wider at the shoulders and tapers down whereas a bear is bigger in the middle and stands differently with its paws out -- this was standing like a man, like a Bigfoot." The 57-year-old noted that black bears in the area are much smaller than the apparent creature he ...

Not the usual household cats! Brazilian family live with SEVEN tigers in their home

Image
ANIMAL-lover Ary Borges was worried about the plight of endangered tigers- so he moved SEVEN of the massive cats into his own house. The dad-of-three rescued two of the tigers from a circus eight years ago, and has since multiplied the endangered species in his home in Brazil.  The striped man-eaters now live in a garden sanctuary alongside Ary and his wife and three daughters. The tigers even swim with Nayara, 20, Uyara, 23, and Deusanira, 24, in the family's backyard pool.  Ary, 43, said: "I was never worried about my daughters co-existing with these animals. "You have to show the animals respect and love - that's how you get it back from them." The girls feed meat directly into the mouths of the fully-grown cats as they join their human friends in the kitchen for dinner- and they even lounge around the house in the evenings. Perhaps more shockingly, Ary even lets his two-year-old granddaughter Rayara take a ride on the backs of the...

You must be kidding: Brazilian man to marry his pet goat

Image
here's the bride A Brazilian man is to wed his pet goat – but has promised not to consummate the marriage. Former stonecutter Aparecido Castaldo, 74, has decided to end his days as a single man to marry his beloved Carmelita. The happy couple will walk, or trot, down the aisle on October 13 in Igreja do Diabo, or Devil’s Church, in the city of Jundiai, Brazil. Aparecido has been in love with the pet for two years and says a goat has advantages over a human companion. ‘She doesn’t speak and doesn’t want money,’ says the father of eight children – four women and four men from four different marriages. The ceremony is scheduled for midnight and will be followed by a big party on All Souls’ Day the following day. Carmelita ate her first wedding dress but has been found another, said Aparecido. ‘Whenever someone says I am doing something wrong I reply the goat does not speak, ask for money to go shopping and doesn’t get pregnant – and she can’t talk.’ The ceremony ...

Hero dog put out bomb in Second World War by URINATING on it

Image
A medal awarded to a dog for urinating on an incendiary bomb to extinguish it in the Blitz was found during a house clearance. Great Dane Juliana took action when the device fell through the roof of her owner’s home in 1941. In 1944, she got a second Blue Cross Medal for alerting customers to a fire in her master’s shop. Auctioneers found one medal and a portrait, which carried a plaque describing Juliana’s brave deeds, in a Bristol house. The two items sold together for £1,100, more than 18 times the £60 pre-sale estimate. Philip Taubenheim, auctioneer at Wotton Auction Rooms, Glos, said: “These items tell a fantastic story. "One can only assume this was a Great Dane with a great bladder.” Juliana met a sad end in 1946 when she was killed by poison posted through her owner’s letterbox. Mirror

Testicle-eating fish could be headed to UK after being found in Paris

Image
The ‘ball-cutter’ fish, which reportedly bites human testicles, could be on its way to the UK after being found in France. 'ball-cutter' fish Male swimmers in Britain could soon have to wear extra protection down below after the pacu was caught worryingly close to these shores in Paris’s Seine river. Police in the French capital took a photo of the Amazon based fish and said it measured 1ft. It can grow as large as 35in (90cm) and weigh up to 55lb (25kg). The pacu, which has reportedly caused men to bleed to death after biting their testicles, had previously turned up in Sweden. ‘The pacu is not normally dangerous to people but it has quite a serious bite,’ said fish expert Henrik Carl. ‘There have been incidents in other countries, such as Papua New Guinea where some men have had their testicles bitten off. ‘They bite because they’re hungry, and testicles sit nicely in their mouth.’ Metro

Woman forced to wait eight years to retrieve diamond earring swallowed by chicken

Image
A pet-owner will be forced to wait eight years to retrieve a lost diamond earring after her chicken swallowed the jewel while perching on her shoulder. Lennon with Sarah Claire Lennon, 38, of Berkshire, will not be able to recover the £300 diamond until her six-month old chicken Sarah gets old and dies. Vets say the jewel, which was given to Miss Lennon by her partner Adam de Marco, is trapped inside Sarah's stomach and an operation to retrieve it could put the bird's life in danger. Sarah could potentially live another eight years, forcing her owner to wait almost a decade for the return of the gift. Miss Lennon said: "The vet said he could operate to recover the earring, but that might kill Sarah, which would devastate our six-year-old daughter Mia, who dotes on the chicken. "So we'll have to wait till Sarah gets old and dies, but they live to a ripe old age – we are probably looking at another eight years before I get my earring back." ...
