Superman becomes a real-life crime fighter

A charity Superman became a real-life superhero after leaping into action to catch a thief.
Luke Junior...the superman
Luke Junior, 24, was entertaining children in his red and blue cape when he spotted a shoplifter running out of a frozen food store being chased by staff.

Families attending the charity day cheered as he made a citizen’s arrest and held on to the suspect until two policewomen arrived.

The man was taken away in handcuffs as the Superman theme tune boomed from the event’s PA system.

Luke, an off-duty security officer, was helping out at the Gleadless Valley Community Action Group day in Sheffi eld to raise money for a skate park.

He said: “The last thing a thief wants to do is run straight into Superman. I ended up having to physically restrain him.

Everyone was cheering and clapping.”

Mike Igoe, commercial director of Heron Foods, said: “We would like to extend our thanks to Luke for his heroic actions.”

A 38-year-old man has admitted theft and is awaiting sentence.
