Man holds back vomit during party, ruptures esophagus

A Nanjing man was recently hospitalized with a ruptured esophagus after he prevented himself from vomiting during a party with friends, the Modern Express reported on July 18.

The 30-something man underwent emergency surgery at Nanjing’s Jiangsu Province Hospital, where doctors found the contents of his stomach had come in contact with other organs, a condition that can cause the body to go into shock.

The man was rushed to the hospital when he began to experience a sharp pain in his stomach after drinking only two bottles of beer at a friend's party. He later explained he resisted the urge to vomit out of embarrassment.

"The patient has a very low tolerance for alcohol and used his glottis, or vocal cords, to suppress his vomit, causing high pressure in his esophagus," said Zhang Bin, deputy director of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery at the hospital.

"He now has to be very careful when eating," said Zhang, who reminded the man to avoid drinking and eating too much.

Brown University To Host 'Nudity In The Upspace' Week

Brown University is about to play host to a week-long celebration of nudity. The "Nudity in the Upspace" week goes from Sept. 30 to Oct. 5 on the Ivy league campus in Providence, R.I. The organizers write on the Facebook page the week intends to confront stigmas about the naked body and open a space space for discussions on it, with "All bodies welcome!" So what will go on at nudity week? On Tuesday, Oct. 1, there will be a nude yoga class that promises to "stretch your body perhaps in ways that it hasn’t been stretched before." Organizers will provide mats, but ask attendees to bring a towel. There will be nude cabaret, nude open mic night, nude body painting, personal testimonies about nudity and a panel on how issues like race and class intersect with nudity and body image. Pensioner ‘stabbed in penis outside Manchester Pound Pub’

A pensioner has reportedly been stabbed in the penis outside a Pound Pub in Manchester.The 63-year-old also suffered injuries to his testicles after an assailant apparently plunged a blade into his groin on Monday night at the establishment in Market Street, Atherton. The Leigh Journal reported the victim had been lured outside the pub by the attacker, who said he wanted to speak to him. Despite the alleged brutal attack, the pensioner was said to have not suffered life-threatening injuries.The victim was attended to by paramedics at around 9.15pm and transferred to the Royal Bolton Hospital. ‘He suffered minimal lacerations and was wounded in a central location,’ said an ambulance spokesman. ‘He was stabbed in the private parts. The hospital was informed prior to his arrival but staff were not on standby.
