Dead man become mayor?...wtf?

A man who apparently died of a diabetic coma in 2010 has been elected as the mayor of a Mexican village.
WTF...zombie?
It is believed relatives of Leninguer Carballido falsified a death certificate so police would cancel an arrest warrant against him for his alleged involvement in a 2004 gang rape.

Prosecutors are now investigating how Carballido managed to deceive the political party he stood for, as well as the voters.

Some of the slogans used in his campaign included ‘United for Development’ and ‘Now is the Time’.

Posters bore a shortened version of his forename – Lenin – which could have helped him to avoid detection.

After he won the mayoral seat with a narrow majority, his death certificate surfaced and his past began to catch up with him.

A local leader of the Democratic Revolution Party, which Carballido was a part of, said: ‘When he registered as a candidate, he presented all his paperwork, his birth certificate, a letter stating he had no criminal record.

‘He fooled the prosecutors’ office, he fooled the office of records, he fooled electoral officials.’

He added: ‘If all this is true, he cannot take office as mayor.’

As there isn’t a statute of limitations on the crimes he allegedly committed, it is possible Carballido could still be arrested even if he is sworn into office.

Police are also considering whether to charge him with election law violations after the vote in the Oaxaca village of San Agustin Amatengo.
