Bizarre ‘double banana’ found inside a single skin

Image
It turns out there is such a thing as double bananas – and this man has proof. Richard Preece, 33, found the extremely rare fruit in a bunch of bananas he had bought in his weekly shop in Asda. The father-of-three – who has completed charity fun runs dressed as Bananaman – was a little shocked at the bizarre discovery. His wife, Samantha, said: ‘It is the most bizarre coincidence. ‘It was just in a bunch of ordinary bananas so it was a bit of a shock. ‘When Sam opened it up none of us could quite believe it. I never even knew that you could get double bananas. ‘I showed my kids and they were quite amazed as they had never seen anything like it before. ‘When I put it on Facebook I wasn’t expecting the reaction that I got with the amount of innuendos and other implications people were commenting.’ In case you were wondering, the double banana tasted no different to an ordinary one, according to children Beatrice, nine, and Felix, six. ‘I thought my days...

What a pickle! Thousands of pickled onions spill from overturned lorry

Image
A lorry driver was left in a bit of a pickle after his overturned vehicle spilled thousands of pickled onions across a carriageway. A sea of silver-skinned pickled onions spread across the road near Drax in North Yorkshire, after the lorry crashed while trying to navigate a roundabout at around 12.30pm on Tuesday. Hundreds of black barrels containing the pickles burst open after the impact on the A614, pouring the tasty treats across the edge of the road on a grassy verge. Despite the eye-watering scenes of carnage, no one was hurt. Sean Stewart, from Goole, Yorkshire, took some photos when he came across the accident. ‘I’ve never seen so many pickles in my whole life. I just couldn’t believe my eyes’, the 50-year-old pickle enthusiast said. ‘It’s lucky the pickles rolled away from the road otherwise there could have been a serious accident,’ Mr Stewart added. - Metro UK LIKE us on Facebook too:-

These black tomatoes are just as tasty

Image
WHEN buying fresh tomatoes most of us opt for those that look juicy and red. But now a nursery has grown the first crop in Britain to turn out jet black. Not only is the colour unusual, the fruit is among the first to contain anthocyanins, an antioxidant thought to help ward off cancer and diabetes. The tomatoes were grown by Ray Brown, 66, of Newton Abbot, Devon, who was sent seeds labelled “black tomato” by a customer. He said: “We couldn’t believe they were real so we sowed them to see. We thought it was an April 1 hoax. But when they grew, we were staggered.” The tomatoes are thought to have been developed at Oregon State University. Cut them open and they’re red on the inside Mr Brown, of Plant World Seeds, said: “They have a lovely flavour. The only way to describe it is good, strong and... tomatoey.” - Express UK LIKE us on Facebook too:-

Robbie Fowler apologised after accusing Fernando Torres and Jan Vertonghen were fighting "like girls"

Image
Football pundit Robbie Fowler apologised to TV viewers yesterday after accusing two Premiership stars of “pulling at each other like a pair of girls”. The former Liverpool striker made his controversial remarks on BBC1’s Final Score show while discussing clashes between Fernando Torres and Jan Vertonghen during the Chelsea v Spurs game. He later apologised, saying: “I’m very sorry. I didn’t mean to offend anyone.” His comments were made on the same day that former Radio 4 newsreader Charlotte Green became the first female to read the classified football results on BBC Radio 5 live. Angry viewers took to Twitter suggesting that Fowler, 38, was being derogatory about women’s football. Celebrity publicist Mark Borkowski wrote: “Robbie Fowler eating humble pie for dissing women’s football on #BBCFinalScore. Charlotte Green 10 v sexist git 0. New pundit in the wings.” But others tweeted in support of the former England player, and criticised the BBC for being too po...

Drowning leaves girl brain dead after instructor throws her in pool

Image
(Google pic) An 8-year-old girl is brain dead and fighting for her life after her instructor threw her into a pool where she was left drowning during a swimming lesson on Friday in Chongqing, Sichuan Province.  The girl identified as Moumou was reluctant to go in the water, and after she refused, the instructor forced her in by physically heaving her into the pool.  But neither the instructor or the on-duty lifeguards took any action as the girl struggled in the water for several minutes, according to Sina Weibo user Ma, who claimed to be a witness at the pool that day.  Ma said that he had assumed the girl was safe, given that she was surrounded by her instructor and the fitness club pool's lifeguards.  Other Web users, who also said that they were at the pool that day, posted similar accounts, saying that the girl appeared to be in serious condition by the time she was finally pulled out of the water.  The hospital where the girl was ...

Man builds fully-functional Boeing 737 flight simulator in his son’s bedroom

Image
An aeroplane enthusiast has taken his obsession a step further than most after using his son’s bedroom to build a Boeing 737 flight simulator that exactly mimics the real thing. Laurent Aigon, 40, from Lacanau in France, has spent the last five years collecting and buying components from around the world in order to put together his simulator with best friend and fellow enthusiast (obviously) Jean-Paul Dupuy. The pair have spent thousands of euros on internet orders for bits and pieces to construct the simulator – which is so realistic that the Institute of Aircraft Maintenance at Bordeaux-Merignac Airport asked him to give a lecture on his achievement. Mr Aigon has since schooled himself in all the procedures for take off and landing and says he is able to fly his ‘plane’ just like a real-life pilot. He also has interest from a couple of major aircraft manufacturers who want to use his creation to simulate various scenarios. It is unclear what Mr Aigon’s son ...

Man holds back vomit during party, ruptures esophagus

Image
Pic from Google... :) A Nanjing man was recently hospitalized with a ruptured esophagus after he prevented himself from vomiting during a party with friends, the Modern Express reported on July 18. The 30-something man underwent emergency surgery at Nanjing’s Jiangsu Province Hospital, where doctors found the contents of his stomach had come in contact with other organs, a condition that can cause the body to go into shock. The man was rushed to the hospital when he began to experience a sharp pain in his stomach after drinking only two bottles of beer at a friend's party. He later explained he resisted the urge to vomit out of embarrassment. "The patient has a very low tolerance for alcohol and used his glottis, or vocal cords, to suppress his vomit, causing high pressure in his esophagus," said Zhang Bin, deputy director of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery at the hospital. "He now has to be very careful when eating," said Zhang, who reminded the m...

Scientists use human urine to charge mobile

Image
Human urine has been used to charge a mobile phone in a major breakthrough for researchers. Will you charge your phone with your urine? Just half a litre of waste generated enough power to make a six-minute phone call and to send several text messages. If the technology can be developed further, it might have grander implications for providing electricity to remote communities in the developing world. Researcher Dr Ioannis Ieropoulos said: ‘Using the ultimate waste product as a source of power to produce electricity is about as eco as it gets. One product that we can be sure of an unending supply is our own urine.’ The technology relies on passing urine through fuel cells made of microbes. As they feed off the urine, they produce electricity – in this case, enough to charge the battery of a basic Samsung phone. Dr Ieropoulos and his team, from the University of the West of England, said it was the first time urine had been used directly to power a commercially a...

PayPal accidentally gives man $92 quadrillion

Image
$92quadrillian is a lot of money. It’s 97,000 times the UK’s national debt, its 92 and 15 zeros, it’s 92,000,000,000,000,000. It’s lot of money. Paypal make mistake again...big big big mistake So when PayPal gave a man from Pennsylvania $92,000,000,000,000,000 you can imagine his (and their) reaction. With that amount of money he would have been richer than Bill Gates, Michael Bloomberg and Larry Page combined. He could have literally bought everything in the world ever and lived off the interest for an eternity. Sadly it wasn’t to be, what PayPal giveth, PayPal taketh away. Moments later the computer error was fixed and Christopher Reynolds was a lowly PR executive again. Speaking to CNN, Mr Reynolds said ‘It’s a curious thing; I don’t know maybe someone was having fun.’ PayPal admitted: ‘This is obviously an error and we appreciate that Mr Reynolds understood that this was the case.’ Source: Metro UK

Students get sick from disgusting game...milk?

Image
Ambulans SAN DIEGO — School officials say lunchtime dares to drink a weird concoction that included hot sauce, carrots, salt and milk likely caused 22 students to get sick at a San Diego elementary school – if all of them were actually ill. San Diego schools spokesman Jack Brandais says Friday that children at Audubon Elementary dared each other to drink from the mixture Thursday. Some reported upset stomachs and nausea afterward. Teachers then made a general announcement to see if other students had stomach problems. Brandais says that call brought out students "who may not have had problems at all." Of the 22 students, 18 were taken to the hospital, and all were later released. As a precaution, the school's kitchen, cafeteria and outdoor lunch areas were sanitized overnight.
