Orphaned polar bear cub becomes best friends with a teddy

One immensely endearing polar bear has been photographed frolicking about in the snow with his best friend – a cuddly teddy bear.

Kali the white, fluffy bear was taken in by staff at Alaska Zoo after they found him alone and scared on the north-west coast.

The one-year-old’s mother is believed to have been killed by hunters and he struggled to cope without her. The adorable cub was given the brown bear as a gift from the keepers and he immediately took a liking to it – the two are now inseparable.

After Kali’s rescue in March last year the hunt was on for a permanent space in a different zoo. In May of this year he was transferred to Buffalo Zoo in New York and ‘is doing very well.’

‘He’s become a close companion for Luna, [another] cub who was born here last November and hand-raised by our staff,’ said a spokesman for Buffalo Zoo.

‘The first day was a little nerve-racking for everybody, but now they’re playing.’

A spokesman for Alaska Zoo said that returning Kali to the wild wasn’t possible when they initially found him.

‘Unfortunately orphaned cubs will not survive in the wild without their mothers care during their first few years so returning them to the wild is not an option.

‘Our staff have well over 100 combined years of experience in working with orphaned cubs.’

Drunk man calls 911 to report one-night stand for ‘snoring like a train’

A drunk man called 911 complaining his one-night stand was ‘snoring like a train’ and keeping him awake.

Benjamin Todd Duddles, 41, of Waukesha, Wisconsin, rang the police saying he wanted a ‘female removed from his bed’. The ‘extremely intoxicated’ reveller at first claimed he did not know how the woman got in to his apartment, but later admitted to officers he just wanted to get some sleep.

‘Caller stated he let her in and then [she] just went into his bed and fell asleep and is now snoring like a train and wants her out,’ explains a report from the Waukesha Police Department.

A police team were dispatched to the property, with Duddles admitting the pair ‘drank together, had relations and she fell asleep’.

The report added: ‘He was advised this was not a police matter as he allowed her in. He was provided the comfort of his couch and [advised] to work the issue out in the morning.’ - Metro UK

(VIDEO) Dog and magpie prove unlikely best friends

Today the internet has gifted us with a video of a magpie play-fighting with a dog, the pair scrapping and lazing around in the sun together and generally being best buds.

You might expect the Jack Russell to pounce on the bird and tear it to shreds, but this particular pooch seemed more interested in playfully pawing at it and rolling around on its back.

There’s a moment when the pair start to get a little rough and you think ‘Oh God this is only going to end in NOM’, but even after the dog trots off, the magpie follows it – flying after it and bringing it a nice stick.

In other internet dog news, this month we have also met Remi, the ‘world’s saddest dog’ (in a cute way) and saw an incredibly polite canine that wipes its feet before entering the house. - Metro UK

(PICS) American man crosses tightrope with safety harness tied to his GENITALS

Brave adventurers at the highline festival walk across ropes up to 61m long NAKED - but the Andy Lewis took it a step further. Balancing 30 metres above ground, these slackliners take the expression of living dangerously one step further - by tightrope walking NAKED.

The brave adventurers leave their clothes behind and wear only a single safety rope secured tightly around their waists, ankles, and - in the case of American Andy Lewis - even their private parts.

The pics of Lewis and Austrian Mich Kemeter crossing the 61-metre stretch of rope were taken by Philadelphia photographer Jared Alden, 31, after his love of travelling and adventure merged into his passion for photography. They were taking part in the GGBY highline festival at an unknown location in the remote Utah dessert.- Mirror UK

Doctors grow disfigured teenage girl a new face on her BREAST

A teenage girl who was left horrifically disfigured in a fire has had a new face grown on her BREAST by doctors.

The move follows a similar operation in which another group of Chinese doctors managed to give a car accident victim a new nose by growing it first on his forehead.

In the latest operation 17-year-old Xu Jianmei woke up after the operation this week to find that she once again had a chin, eyelids and an ear.

But she said best of all she could smile properly for the first time in 12 years since the fire that left her horrifically disfigured when she was just five.

The parents had been able to afford plastic surgery to improve her life in any way but that changed when doctors working on the pioneering new technology offered her the chance to have surgery for free.

It meant that the girl from the small Chinese fishing village received the face transplant using tissue from her chest in an operation that has now been carried out.

The transplant team in Fujian province built her new face using a blood vessel from her leg and a water-filled balloon to expand her skin. It then took several months to 'grow' the new face until it was large enough to cover her missing facial features.

Video footage after last week's eight-hour surgery shows Ms Xu lying in a hospital bed, barely conscious and severely swollen, but with smooth flesh now replacing the ridged scars of her old face.

"With her new face she will be able to express herself in a more precise way. She will even be able to blush when her emotions change, but it will take a long time," her surgeon, Jiang Chenhong, claimed.

"First, we took a piece of blood vessel fascia from her thigh and implanted it in her chest. Then we inserted a skin expander beneath the part of skin where the blood vessel fascia was planted, so that the part could expand and produce enough skin for her new face," Jiang Chenghong added.

Chinese teams are said to have performed several similar transplant surgeries in recent months, including creating a new nose on a car accident survivor's forehead, using a skin expander and cartilage from his ribs. That transplant was successfully completed in September.

China's first donor face transplant recipient, farmer Li Guoxing, received his new face in 2006. That was less than a year after the world's first successful face transplant recipient, Isabelle Dinoir, was presented to media in France.

However, Mr Li died less than two years later, after stopping his anti-rejection medication. Since then 10 surgeries of this kind have been performed in China.

Doctors believe that the wounds left by the surgery on Xu will heal over the next several weeks. - Mirror UK

Newsreader botches ‘vibrating toothbrush’ anecdote, simulates sex act

A newsreader launches into an absurd innuendo completely oblivious in a YouTube clip circulating today, but at least her co-anchor got the joke.

The list of newsreader gaffes is long and filled with accidental penis drawings and misread autocues, but this one in particular is one of the worst/best we’ve seen. In it, a Morning News host offers up a tip on how to soothe children during teething.

‘When my son was teething he used to like to take the big fat rubber end of my vibrating toothbrush and put it in his mouth,’ she says.
‘And he’d just kind of sit there, like ‘oh yeah, that feels good, that hits the spot,’ she adds, simulating the motion with her hand. The co-anchor then turns to the camera with an awestruck expression, as she attempts to recover by reminding viewers that it relates to the problems of itchy gums.

Other major news cock-ups we’ve seen this year include a host accidentally picking up a stack of papers instead of his iPad, and a newsreader attributing an Asiana Airlines plane crash to ‘Captain Sum Ting Wong’. - Metro UK

A nice day for a height wedding as world’s tallest man gets married

It may sound clichéd but the world’s tallest man is on cloud nine after meeting the woman of dreams. Sultan Kosen, who stands at 2.52m (8ft 3in) tall, had given up on finding love as women were put off by his stature – until he met Merve Dibo. The couple wed in Turkey today – and even though farmer Mr Kosen, 30, towers over Ms Dibo, who stands at 1.73m (5ft 8in) tall, the couple couldn’t be happier, he said.

‘Now I will have my own family and private life,’ he told reporters.

Recalling his long search for love and happiness, he added: ‘How unfortunate I could not find a suitable girl of my own size. But in my fiancee I’ve found the person for me.’

Now his dream of finding love has come true, he hopes to find a car big enough for his huge frame so his bride can travel by his side. After becoming the world’s tallest man in 2009, Mr Kosen achieved near celebrity status, and as a result the couple had plenty of VIPs to invite to their nuptials in his home city of Mardin.

Guests included a host of politicians, including Turkey’s president Abdullah Gul and prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as well as religious leaders and high-profile businessmen.

Not surprisingly, Mr Kosen, who also holds Guinness World Records for the person with the biggest hands – 27.5cm (11ins) long – and  feet – 36.5cm (14ins) in length… he wears size 28 shoes – had to have a wedding suit specially-tailored for the event.

He suffers from a  rare disorder called pituitary gigantism, which causes his body to continually produce the growth hormone. Doctors believe his condition was caused by a tumour on his pituitary gland, which was removed in 2008. Mr Kosen grew normally until the age of ten when the tumour caused his growth to increase at a rapid rate – which was only halted until last year.

He is one of only ten people to grow above 2.44m – 8ft – and surpassed China’s Bao Xishun as the world’s tallest man four years ago. He stands at a height of 2.36m (7ft 9ins).

During a visit to Britain two years ago, Mr Kosen said: ‘The kids used to tease me and I found that very difficult. But now I am really proud of being tall.’

Robert Wadlow of Illinois, in the US, who died aged 22 in 1940,  was the world’s tallest ever man, reaching a height of 2.72m ( 8ft 11.1ins). - Metro UK

Schoolgirl found hanged after saying she 'wanted to be with daddy in heaven'

Tragic Maria Kislo, 12, left a note saying how much she missed father Arek, who died suddenly after suffering a heart attack in 2009

A 12-year-old girl was found hanged in her bedroom with a note saying she wanted to be with her dad in heaven. Maria Kislo was left devastated by the loss of her father, Arek, who died after suffering a sudden heart attack in 2009.

The tragic schoolgirl was found by her distraught mum Monika, 35, who had gone upstairs to read her a bedtime story. Maria, from Leszno in Poland, had left a short note, which read: "Dear Mum. Please don't be sad. I just miss daddy so much, I want to see him again."

The youngster's body was retrieved by brother Michal, 13, but she was already dead. Heartbroken Monika said: "Five years ago I lost my husband Arek, this year my daughter. I don’t know if I can go on, and I wouldn't if it was not for my son.

"She didn't seem unhappy. She didn't have problems at school and she seemed a happy little girl."

She added: "I had no idea she missed her father so much, she never really spoke about it."

Pensioner, 86, wows locals by doing the splits

Splits decision: 86-year-old Tao Ouyun performs the impressive manoeuvre (Picture: Rex)

An 86-year-old woman from China has wowed locals with her ability to do the splits. Tao Ouyun, from Yuyao in eastern China’s Zhejiang Province, hasn’t let age prevent her from doing what she loves most, which is practicing Tai Chi. The exercise could be part of the reason she is still able to perform the impressive splits manoeuvre as it keeps her flexible.

She was snapped posing in two positions that are enough to make most people’s eyes water. The first one involved her parting her legs across a concrete floor and the second saw her plant her right limb vertically on a pole.

The impressive veteran has been practicing the martial art for 36 years after taking it up following her retirement from a weaving factory. - Metro UK

Woman’s blind date turns out to be her father-in-law, husband is not happy

The last thing you need when planning to cheat on your husband with a mystery man is for the guy to turn out to be his dad.

That’s what reportedly happened when Lili went on a secret rendezvous in Heilongjiang province, north-east China, with a man she had met on the internet. Little did the 28-year-old know she had arranged a blind date with her father in law, Wang Pai, after they had both used false identities.

As if things couldn’t get any worse, it transpired the unfaithful wife had been followed to the hotel location by her husband, and the man’s son, Wang Jai. When she rang the doorbell to the room while in her pink bathrobe and the dad answered, Mr Jai went berserk and started to assault both of them.

Mr Pai, 57, spoke of his surprise at finding out his secret date was his daughter in law. He said: ‘We eventually agreed to meet for a romantic liaison, but when I opened the door I don’t know if she was more surprised or me.

‘She turned round and ran off down the hallway straight into her husband, my son, who had been following her.’

The husband was detained for five days after knocking out two of his wife’s teeth and causing his father to be taken to hospital with a head injury. - Metro UK

Teenager to lose virginity in front of an audience in name of ‘art’

A student has announced plans to lose his virginity in front of an audience for ‘performance art’ – but he hasn’t told his parents yet. Clayton Pettet will have gay sex for the first time in front of 100 people, as part of a project called Art School Stole My Virginity. After the 19-year-old has had safe sex with a friend, he will ask the audience what they thought of his performance.
‘Art’: Clayton Pettet will lose his virginity in public (Picture: SWNS)
The teenager, who has been planning the event since he was 16, said: ‘I’ve held on to my virginity for 19 years and I’m not throwing it away lightly.

‘I have decided to use mine and the loss of it to create a piece that I think will stimulate interesting debate.’

Mr Pettet studies at the Central Saint Martins art school. Its alumni include Jarvis Cocker and M.I.A. His event will take place next January in Hackney, east London.

But some gay campaigners have claimed it cheapens sex between loving partners.

The Rev Sharon Ferguson, of the Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement, said: ‘As an art project in front of the audience, where is the love, respect and mutuality in that?’ - Metro UK

Student has phone stolen, seeks date with new owner

A student whose phone was stolen has told the woman who ended up with the device that she can keep it – as long as she agrees to meet him. Niklaus Knecht was shocked when photos of the female appeared in his dropbox after the mobile was stolen while he was asleep on a train.

The 24-year-old had left the picture- upload function operating on his device at the time. He worked out from the photographs that the woman lives in Morocco and now wants to get in touch with her.

‘I’m keen to find out more about her,’ said Mr Knecht, from Switzerland.

‘I’d like to meet her and I’m prepared to travel to Morocco to see her.’

‘It would be interesting to find out how she ended up getting the phone, although I’m sure she had nothing to do with the original theft. I guess she bought it from whoever stole it.’

Some of the pictures show the woman’s family in traditional clothing while others are of her lying on a bed, showing off new clothes, and posing next to a waterfall or in a park.

‘The photos are a pretty good general view of everyday life in Morocco,’ Mr Knecht added. His phone was stolen in April when he fell asleep on a train to Zurich. He woke up to find someone had sliced open his jacket pocket and stolen it.

Mr Knecht, who has set up a Facebook page to contact the woman, added: ‘She’s welcome to keep the phone.’ - Metro UK

Clone your dog: Scientists offer Britons chance to create £63,000 pet replica

Are you a dog lover who couldn’t live without your favourite pet? Does the idea of having your canine by your side for the rest of your life sound like a dream come true?

Scientists from South Korea are giving one ‘lucky’ Briton the chance to create a clone of ‘man’s best friend’ for free.

Insung Hwang, director of the UK Dog Cloning Competition, said: ‘We can clone any breed, size or shape of canine and are coming to the UK to offer this process to the owner of one very special dog.

‘We welcome entries from any UK-based dog owner who wants to benefit from this exciting new advance in biotechnology.’

Experts will take one microscopic skin cell to recreate an exact replica of your canine in just two months using cutting edge technology.

A biopsy is taken from a living dog which is then replicated to create a man-made embryo. The cells can also be banked at a facility to be activated at a later date.

The team from Sooam Biotech claim to have successfully cloned at least 400 canines around the world, with each process usually costing around £63,000. - Metro UK

Eight-year-old girl writes moving letter to Labour MP Stephen Timms about family’s poverty

An eight-year-old girl has written a heartfelt letter to a Labour MP about her family’s poverty, raising new concerns about the cost of living in the process.

The hand-written letter was given to Stephen Timms by the girl’s parents when they attended his constituency surgery in East Ham, and he later posted it on Twitter.

‘Things are becoming more and more difficult,’ she writes in the letter, explaining that her family have found it difficult to feed themselves and have been forced to take on a lodger in their two-bedroom flat they rent.

‘I am a hard working girl that wants to keep learning more and more, but due to the financial situation of my parents, I am unable to attend teaching and swimming lessons,’ she wrote.

Mr Timms said he was reluctant to draw wider conclusions from the ‘extraordinary’ letter, but warned of a growing number of people ‘on the verge of destitution’ owing to the government’s bedroom tax, welfare reforms and immigration changes.

‘This family is only surviving because of help from friends and handouts from the church. Her parents also brought their daughter’s school reports to the constituency surgery, which showed she had all As,’ the shadow employment minister told the Independent.

‘She obviously a remarkable little girl facing a very tough time but who knows if she will even be here in a couple of years?’ - Metro UK

Over 6,000 tins of baked beans stolen from lorry as driver slept

A shortage of baked beans could soon be a problem in the West Midlands after thousands of tins were stolen from the back of a lorry.

Members of the public have been warned to look out anyone trying to sell large quantities of Heinz baked beans in ‘suspicious circumstances’. A total of 6,400 tins of beans with sausages were taken from a Scania lorry parked in a Worcestershire layby as the driver slept in his cab.

‘Thieves cut a large hole in the curtain-sided articulated lorry parked in a rural layby on the A441 at Cookhill, near Redditch,’ West Mercia police said in a statement.

‘The layby is situated about half a mile from the M42 and the theft happened between 8.45pm Monday and 5.30am yesterday.’

A spokesperson said an entire pallet and part of a second pallet were stolen from the lorry.

Anyone with information has been urged to call police on 101 or alternatively, the anonymous Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111. - Metro UK

New underwear filters out smell of flatulence

If you’re the type of person who would kick someone out of bed for breaking wind, then this range of underwear could be for you.

The Shreddies pants contain Zorflex, used in chemical warfare suits, and its Loughborough-based makers claim they can filter odours 200 times stronger than the average ‘emission’.

The carbon material is apparently reactivated every time the pants are washed.

A spokesperson at Shreddies is quoted by NY Daily News as saying: ‘Although Shreddies has got cheeky with the new campaign, to many people they still remain very much a healthcare product and have helped so many cope with conditions such as IBS, Crohn’s and food intolerances. But the bottom line is that Shreddies are for everyone, after all, it’s something we all do.

‘Flatulence seriously affects millions of people every day and since 2008 Shreddies has been helping those affected increase their quality of life.

‘We have found the answer to help alleviate the most obvious symptom of flatulence… the odours.’ - Metro UK

23 Things You Should Never Say To A Curvy Woman

Despite the fact that we should all know better, a shocking number of people think that it's acceptable to comment on women's bodies -- curvy, skinny, short and tall alike. However, women who fall outside of the thin "ideal" face a specific type of weight discrimination. The comments often directed at these women make it glaringly clear that fat stigma is (sadly) still alive and well.

The term "plus-size" itself is a point of contention for many women. Obviously no one should be singled out for their body size, or treated differently because of their weight. But the fact remains that strangers, friends, family members and colleagues often feel empowered to comment on a woman's size -- especially when that size is not petite.

In a January 2012 piece for xoJane, Lesley Kinzel wrote about being criticized for her weight in public places such as the grocery store, the gym and a parking lot:
The frequency with which fat-shaming happens means many fat people go about their lives for years feeling constantly on guard, always prepared for someone to make a comment, to call them out. It doesn’t have to come from strangers, either; often our families and friends are just as likely to throw out careless fat-shaming comments, and not always with malicious intent.
We asked our readers to share the size-related comments they hate receiving most. Here are 23 things you should never say to a woman who isn't rail-thin:

1. "You have such a pretty face."
2. "You should wear black."
3. "You're a big girl."
4. "Have you ever thought about lap band surgery?"
5. "I don't have a problem with bigger girls."
6. "You're big-boned, that's all."
7. "If you ate less, you'd lose the weight."
8. "What happened?"
9. "I wish I enjoyed food like you."
10. "Don't worry, I like thick girls."
11. "Have you ever tried losing weight?"
12. "You shouldn't eat that."
13. "You look fine the way you are."
14. "You shouldn't eat that."
15. "Did you gain weight because you're afraid of attracting men?"
16. "You'd be so pretty if you lost weight."
17. "When are you due?"
18. "My friend lost so much weight on this great diet."
19. "If you slimmed down, you'd be really sexy."
20 "Have you checked your cholesterol recently?"
21. "You should try to be healthier."
22. "You shouldn't wear stripes/polka dots/floral prints."
23. "You'd be dateable if you lost weight."

Transgender woman expelled from social club after incident in ladies toilets

She claims she is the victim of transphobia - but the club say she has been treated the same as anyone else
A transgender woman has been expelled from her social club after an incident in the ladies loo.

Hinoi Tonkin, who used to be 21-stone Keith but has slimmed down to nine stone, was already under suspension at the club. But she was formally thrown out after a meeting of the committee last week at Beechwood, Easterside and District Social Club in Middlesbrough, Cleveland.

Hinoi was accused of swearing and behaviour which disturbed other members but had denied the charge. She refused to attend the hearing but it went ahead in her absence and club secretary Mick Smith informed her of the decision by letter.

Hinoi, 29, claims she is the victim of transphobia but the club say she has been treated the same as anyone else. She said she had felt comfortable after joining the club last year but had became concerned by several incidents recently.

It culminated when Hinoi, who still needs more operations to complete her transformation from a man into a woman, hit her head off the toilet wall following an altercation.

She said: “I have been expelled but I do not think I am to blame.

“I have seen girls as drunk as skunks and nothing has been said but a complaint about me was investigated and upheld.

“In the past I have been blamed for urinating on the seats in the women’s toilets but it wasn’t me. And I have been stared at sometimes.

“I thought people had accepted me for the woman I am and I was starting to feel comfortable at the club but I was worried by some things which happened.

“Once a man pulled me up to dance but I was not in the mood and when he realised I was transgender he said some very unpleasant things.

“I have been stressed out by all the staring from people and it got to me.”

Hinoi was called to the meeting to answer a charge that she had used foul language towards another female member. She was also accused of collapsing on her seat and floor and hitting her head off the wall of the loo. Hinoi denies swearing but admitted being distressed and hitting the wall. She said: “I admit nutting my head off the wall in the ladies toilet hoping it would cause enough damage that I would not come around.

“I know it was the wrong way to deal with it but I was desperate.

“I am a girl and I always have been. It’s just that I was born with a disability.”

Hinoi, of Grangetown, said her transformation is still incomplete and she is waiting for hair removal treatment. She is also inquiring about procedures to reduce folds of skins caused by her weight loss.

“I am not stopping until I am who I should be,” she said.

“What has upset me is that I have been a member of the club for a year and I thought I was settling in very well.

“I have done nothing wrong and, if anything, I am the victim.”

Hinoi is supported by her mother Margaret who said her daughter just wants to be left alone. She said: “Hinoi has collapsed with stress but anyone who really knows her adores her.

“She likes to dance and some people don’t like to see her having a good time.”

Mr Smith confirmed Hinoi had been told to attend a meeting.

He said: “This is a private matter between the club and the member and I will not tell you what happened.

“I will be sending a letter to her informing her of the decision.” - Mirror UK

Man runs marathon, knits scarf and breaks world record at same time

Running a marathon is hard enough without having to knit a record-breaking scarf at the same time like one man did in Kansas.

David Babcock thought it would be a good idea to combine the two totally different hobbies and at the same time set a new Guinness World Record.

‘It took a long time to do distance running. It takes a long time to do knitting,’ he told KCTV.

‘I thought these could go together. They are both kind of tedious. I thought it would be a fun challenge.’

The 41-year-old managed to achieve his goal after knitting a scarf that was 12ft 13.4in long while running the Kansas City Marathon in a time of five hours and 48 minutes.

This surpassed Susie Hewer’s previous feat of making a scarf that was 6ft 9in in length during the long distance race.

She had achieved the record in London earlier this year. - Metro UK

Man gets hand stuck in loo trying to retrieve wedding ring

A man’s desperate attempt to retrieve his wedding ring that had fallen down a squat toilet ended in more pain after he got his hand stuck down it.

Zhang was unable to free himself from the loo in Quanzhou, in China’s Fujian province, after getting it caught.

He had to suffer further embarrassment when firefighters were called in to help him, but this probably paled in comparison to what he would have endured if his wife had found out he’d lost the ring.

Zhang, who had taken off his ring to have a shower, was discovered stuck in the lavatory by his colleagues at work after they heard his screams.

They tried to free their fellow worker with some soapy water but failed and had to call in reinforcements.

Fire crews disassembled sections of the floor in order to free Zhang.

And although he was able to escape it isn’t clear whether he managed to retrieve his wedding ring. - Metro UK

Man Undergoes Extensive Plastic Surgery To Look Like Justin Bieber, Spends $100,000 In 5 Years

Not only is songwriter Toby Sheldon a 33-year-old Justin Bieber fan, his Bieber-devotion would blow teeny-bopping Beliebers out of the water.

That's because Sheldon went so far as to spend almost $100,000 on five years worth of plastic surgery to make him look like his idol, according to the British tabloid Closer.

This is what Sheldon looks like after all that plastic surgery he had done to resemble the 19-year-old Canadian crooner:

On top of Botox injections and hair transplants, Sheldon had costly "smile surgery" done to make his smile look just like Bieber's, according to multiple reports.

"It's Justin's smile that gives him his youthful look. So I had my upper lip lifted [and] my bottom lip plumped out," the musician told Closer. - Huffington Post

Angler Hooks 134-Pound Carp In Thailand, May Crush World Record

Holy carp! A British tourist may have just reeled in a world record. While vacationing in Thailand for his birthday, Keith Williams hooked a 134-pound carp, believed to be the biggest ever caught.

"He told his wife that he could feel in his bones that he was going to catch a special fish that day," Stuart Gillham, owner of the fishing resort in Krabi where Williams was staying, told British newspaper Metro.

The monster fish, which weighs 134 pounds and 7 ounces, reportedly took 25 minutes to reel in.

According to The London Times, the previous record was held by Terry Mather, who caught a 114-pound Siamese carp. The International Game Fish Association will need to confirm the new world record for largest carp.

Is this the world’s most compact flat? Go to the toilet while cooking your dinner

It’s the kind of poky apartment estate agents might like to describe as ‘cosy’ rather than ‘cramped’. Time-saving tenants will have the luxury of being able to go to the toilet while cooking their dinner given the flat’s unorthodox interior layout- although food hygiene might be an issue.

The all-in-one kitchen/bathroom/bedroom is available to rent for €200 (£169) a month in the French city of Reims.

Situated in the heart of the traditional site for crowning French kings, the property doesn’t exactly exude pomp and splendour.

Somewhat loosely described as a ‘kitchenette’, the tiny 9m² flat also comes with a bunk bed and a cooking plate.

With a shower overlooking the kitchen, tenants will be also able to have a wash while keeping an eye on their cooking.

The ad was spotted by Louise Wiseman, a 23-year-old English lecturer from Hertfordshire who is renting in Reims.

She said: ‘I saw quite a lot of flats like that before I found my one, albeit not quite that bad.

‘A lot do have the shower in the same room as the “kitchen” and living area. A friend has a flat like that but at least her toilet is in the corridor.

‘There are a lot of small flats around, but that has to be the worst I’ve seen!’ - Metro UK

Driving instructor to the stars admits: I had no idea who Adele was even when she sang to me

The Chasing Pavements hitmaker, 25, is the latest celebrity to pass her driving test first time thanks to Noel Gaughan – but he admits he often has no idea his VIP clients are famous.

‘She (Adele) would sing some beautiful songs and say “you must know this one” but I don’t really know many celebrities,’ said Mr Gaughan.

He also taught One Direction’s Niall Horan, 20, to drive but had no idea his pupil was a boyband star until they stopped at traffic lights and the car was surrounded by screaming girls.

‘That made driving difficult,’ said Mr Gaughan, 49, who runs driving school Intensive Courses in Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire.

He says Notting Hill actor Rhys Ifans, 46, was his ‘funniest pupil’. ‘When we got to the test centre, he (Ifans) walked up to the examiner and said “Shall I drop my pants now?”’ said Mr Gaughan.

Other celebrities to shed the L-plates thanks to his instructions include Mumford & Sons bassist Ted Dwane, 28, X-Men: First Class actor James McAvoy, 34, singer Mika, 30, and Bond girl Gemma Arterton, 27. - Metro UK

What a pickle! Thousands of pickled onions spill from overturned lorry

A lorry driver was left in a bit of a pickle after his overturned vehicle spilled thousands of pickled onions across a carriageway.

A sea of silver-skinned pickled onions spread across the road near Drax in North Yorkshire, after the lorry crashed while trying to navigate a roundabout at around 12.30pm on Tuesday.

Hundreds of black barrels containing the pickles burst open after the impact on the A614, pouring the tasty treats across the edge of the road on a grassy verge.

Despite the eye-watering scenes of carnage, no one was hurt.

Sean Stewart, from Goole, Yorkshire, took some photos when he came across the accident.

‘I’ve never seen so many pickles in my whole life. I just couldn’t believe my eyes’, the 50-year-old pickle enthusiast said.

‘It’s lucky the pickles rolled away from the road otherwise there could have been a serious accident,’ Mr Stewart added. - Metro UK

Woman Accidentally Texts Detective About Drug Deal

Jessie Mulligan allegedly texted a message to a narcotics detective offering drugs for sale. Now she may have to trade in her cell phone for a jail cell.

Deputies in Nevada County, Calif., arrested Mulligan on Friday after she allegedly tried to arrange a drug deal with a friend through a text for fentanyl, an opiate similar to morphine.

The message was actually sent to a narcotics detective who decided to take her up on the offer and arranged a meeting, according to 14NewsOnline.com.

She was arrested and charged with three felony counts, according to Nevada County Sheriff's Dept. spokesman Lt. Steven Tripp.

“She was surprised. She probably felt a little bit silly that she had contacted law enforcement,” Tripp said according to CBS Sacramento.

Tripp adds that the officers appreciated the tip. “When we get calls from criminals saying, ‘Hey, do you want to buy something?’ and it happens to be stolen, or of a criminal nature, sure, absolutely it makes our job easier,” Tripp said.

Mulligan's mistake isn't the first time an alleged drug dealer was apprehended because of the wrong text.

Earlier this month, authorities in Sparta, N.J., arrested Nicholas Delear Jr., after a detective received a text from his phone saying he had a quarter pound of marijuana for sale and wanted to meet at a pizza parlor.

In May, 2012, police in Santa Maria, Calif., arrested 39-year-old Reymundo Carlos Escobedo after he mistakenly sent messages to a police officer offering to sell methamphetamines. - Huffington Post

Never drink alone again with wine for cats

How many times have you got home after a long day at work, kicked off your shoes, opened a bottle of red wine and sat down with a glass, only to find your mood ruined by the fact that your cat can’t join you in having a drink?

Um, us neither, but apparently there is a market waiting to be tapped, albeit in Japan.

B&H Lifes has produced wine for cats named Nyan Nyan Nouveau, in a reference to the local equivalent of ‘meow meow’.

Describing the drink as wine may not be entirely accurate, however, as the drink is actually Cabernet grape juice, with added catnip thrown in for good measure.

Only 1,000 bottles have been produced, costing around 399 yen each (£2.5). - Metro UK

Sudoku puzzle on husband's gravestone must be removed, grieving widow told

She was left stunned when she was told the numbers teaser and a separate maths equation must be erased from the headstone

Jobsworth council bosses have ordered a grieving widow to remove personal inscriptions on her late husband's gravestone - as it includes a Sudoku puzzle. Angela Robinson was left stunned when she was told the numbers teaser and a separate maths equation must be erased from the headstone.

The messages were a tribute to her late husband Allan, who died in May last year aged 66, and who worked as a mathematician. But council chiefs have bizarrely ruled the inscriptions lower the standards of the churchyard.

Ms Robinson, from Chester, Cheshire, said: "It’s completely unnecessary.

"We are talking about a two inch square Sudoku puzzle and a one line mathematical equation because my husband was a mathematician and did a lot of Sudoku puzzles.

"He was a bit of a fanatic but this is personal to him. How can they possibly say what we have put on there is lowering standards?” Mr Robinson's son Paul added: "In what way is this remotely offensive, of concern or even matters in any way?

"Jobsworth springs to mind!

"It is a very personal memorial that surely would not cause any harm, regardless of petty rules.

"He was an avid Sudoku fan and the equation merely a tiny extract from his PhD thesis in mathematics.

"It is a very fitting tribute to a very intelligent and law-abiding person."

Farndon Parish Council, who wrote to Ms Robinson and incorrectly spelt her husband's name as ' Mr Allen', said the engravings were ‘contrary to the guidelines for headstone inscriptions’ provided to all stone masons who were obliged to submit a draft copy of the proposals before installation.

Clerk Suzi Pollard added: “The councillors understand that this is a sensitive and upsetting issue, however, they must ensure that the standards of the burial ground are kept high for the benefit of all.

"Please make immediate arrangements with the stone mason to comply with the guidelines.” - Mirror UK

Missing US kids found in Calgary

CALGARY -- City cops are co-ordinating the safe return of three American kids, reported missing by their father and found in downtown Calgary on Wednesday.

At 1:15 p.m., a beat patrol officer located the white motorhome carrying Jordan Davis, 15, Jasper Davis, 14 and Tabitha Davis, 11, and their biological mother and non-custodial parent, Sherri Lynn Davis, a.k.a. Sherry Lynn O'Neal.

Police say the children are in good condition and co-operating with investigators.

The kids were reported missing last Friday to Cass County sheriffs in Missouri.

On Tuesday, Calgary police got information about the missing kids and their mother being spotted in the area.

Maj. Jeff Weber of the Cass County Sheriff's Department, told reporters in a press conference that they were contacted by Calgary police that same night, saying that the mother and an older son had visited a shelter for financial assistance.

"The story that they gave to the social worker seemed a little suspicious and when Sherri left, the social workers called the local authorities," he said.

A copy of the video from the surveillance camera at the Calgary shelter was shown to Jamie Davis, the children's father, and he confirmed it was his son Jordan and his ex-wife on the tape.

Following confirmation, American authorities got a warrant for the arrest of the biological mother.

Weber said the concerned father breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing the children are safe.

"I think his first question was, 'How am I going to take my kids back?'"

Davis told American media he never had any reason to be concerned about his ex-wife and that for the last 3 1/2 years, he has been raising his kids with his new wife and her four kids.

To his knowledge, the concerned father said, the kids didn't have any contact with their mother in the past three or four years.

Davis said he's not worried the children will be hurt, but fears they may be scared and confused.

The kids' biological mother has been slapped with a felony charge with a $30,000 US bond, but it's possible there will be more charges.

American authorities say their priority is the reunification of the three Missouri kids with their father, but they will also immediately pursue the extradition of Sherri Lynn Davis. - Sun News Network

Drive-in sex boxes declared a £1.4million flop as prostitutes and customers complain

Drive-in sex boxes designed to make prostitution safer have failed to impress. The nine wooden, garage-like constructions, which cost £1.4million of taxpayers’ money, were ‘bad for business’, prostitutes said.

The boxes, on the outskirts of Zurich, Switzerland, were meant to improve hygiene and safety for the women.

But since they opened, customer numbers have fallen and prostitutes declared them ‘not worth our while’.

The sex stations, which are not monitored by CCTV, have also proved unpopular with punters.

One wrote a letter of complaint to a local paper, saying: ‘On a Saturday night, there were only three prostitutes there. That is not really a lot of choice.’ - Metro UK
